Challenge
Create the logo for Sloppy Joe's Smoke on the Water restaurant on Okauchee Lake in Wisconsin. The client wanted a sunset, fire, the lake, the feeling of a barbecue, and required the use of the typeface Gunslinger Academy. There was also a timeframe of 3 days.
Solution
Option 1 was centered around the concept of a burning coal. The coal with the fire created an "O" shape that fit within the word "smoke." I gave it the color of fire, but also that of a sunset. The idea was that the coal symbol could be a motif for the company. Option 2 also utilized the fire and colors of the sunset. For option 3, the circles were formed in the pattern of ascending bubbles to represent the lake. They also looked like coals on fire, but were also an abstract of people raising their arms in celebration. They surround one another to give a feeling of togetherness, a feeling that often occurs at barbecues.
