Challenge
Create the logo for Alternative Educational Solutions, a new educational program that deals with the mental health of medical students. It must contain a lockup of the logo and the name. The client made the specific request that it does not feel medical in any way. The timeframe for this project was 2 weeks.
Process
When asked about possible iconographic ideas, the client mentioned a tree and a brain, and I brought a few ideas of my own to the table. We also discussed color options, as I researched the feelings and emotions certain colors evoke to bring a specific feeling to the company. After several meetings, we narrowed it down to two options. I then made mockups to demonstrate to the client the ways the logos could be used in different places, such as stationary. This helped in making an end decision.
Solution
I created a logo that combine the images of a joyous person and a lotus flower. The lotus flower represents growth and purity, cleaning the soul, which is a goal of AES. The joyous person shows the end result of the program, a person coming out on the other side a better person more prepared for the job ahead of them. The color blue was chosen to give a calming and refreshing feeling, something a person participating in the program needs to be reminded of.
