Challenge
Singularize MIAD's wayfinding system by implementing a creative and effective solution.
Process
Research wayfinding solutions in a variety of different ways. First, I gathered information around the MIAD building by taking photographs of the large variety of inconsistent signage. Next, I made a mood board and gathered inspiration to generate ideas that would work within the space. I then sketched out several different solutions and determined which would work best for MIAD.
Solution
A streamlined wayfinding solution that would unify MIAD and help assist newcomers in finding their way around. Each floor would be color coordinated and use a stepladder-like system in which the floors move up the rungs as the person climbs the floors. Lights would be used outside of classrooms to signify if the classroom was in use or in session. This solution would also utilize the many support columns in MIAD by creating signage that would wrap around them.
